Johny Dar

Johny Dar is an artist designer, musician and director pioneering original forms of artistic expression through art, design, fashion, music and multimedia. His groundbreaking creative work is at the vanguard of artistic innovation today, and has been hailed as a new renaissance in the making, attracting international acclaim across a wide range of industries and media. All Dar’s artworks are inspired by organic intelligence and pioneer an original aesthetic, as well as trailblazing geometric and mathematical properties.

Johny Dar was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1978. Growing up, he nurtured dreams of becoming a filmmaker, convinced from an early age that he had a vision to share. Discovering his talent for design, he moved from New York to Los Angeles in 1997 to study fashion, launched his first label in 1999, and immediately captivated the fashion scene with his avant-garde collections, which were stocked in top retailers before he finished fashion school. Finding himself a rapidly rising star at a young age, Johny put his inevitable success on hold by leaving Los Angeles to travel the world, seeking to break away from the known and nurture his talent in new ways.

During this quest Dar developed an original methodology for hand-drawn art, nurtured by an organic form of intelligence and featuring groundbreaking aesthetic, geometric and mathematical properties. It is this unique style of expression which informs his designs in all mediums (including illustration, sculpting and painting) and his unwavering passion for originality, that form the bedrock of all Johny Dar creations. Upon returning to the industry, he founded the Johny Dar brand as a lifestyle brand offering a global audience original experiences across a wide range of mediums, including fine art, fashion, music, photography, body art, multimedia, publishing and events.

Johny Dar has collaborated with celebrities including Emma Watson, Jessie J, Pedro Almovodar, Florence Welch, Sir Elton John, Carla Bruni, Bryan Adams, Julio Iglesias, Tom Waits, Harry Styles, Marianne Faithful, Victoria Beckham, Melanie C and Sam Smith, and his work has been featured in publications including Vogue, Marie Claire, Elle, Le Monde, Die Zeit, New York Times, Harpers Bazaar, Fault, Hunger, Kaltblut, Aesthetica, Tatler, and Flair, among others. Dar philosophy

As an artist, Dar’s extraordinary technique of creating images from an intricate build up of geometric, organic shapes interlaced together like notes creating a musical rhythm, sets him apart.

For Dar, offering audiences a new perspective is an integral part of his work, by providing experiences that connect the eyes with the music of the matter in a visual form, linking the sound and visual hemispheres of the brain, and allowing for an interactive imaginary experience that allows the observer to see with new eyes.

In addition to the signature style prominent in his illustration works, Dar works with a range of techniques including action painting (an effective combination of martial art and dance) in both his body art and painting works.
